PHONEBOOK

* When you start the game, you'll only have three phone numbers - Yoshio's, Shiori's, and Rei's. In order to get more phone numbers, you have to call Yoshio after a girl introduces herself to you and ask him about that specific girl (meaning you can only obtain one phone number at a time from him). In most cases this will be your first scene with a girl, but for Yuko you have to bump into her four times. Additionally, even though there's an empty space in a full phonebook, you can never get Miharu's phone number because she never introduces herself to you whenever you meet.

* Below you'll see what a full phone book looks like. While it's very unlikely you'll meet every girl in a single run unless you're actively trying to, the placements of their names will always be the same no matter what order you meet them in. Note that Japanese name order lists their last name first - which is the name you'll need to recognize in most cases (except for Shiori and Yumi, both of whom the protagonist refers to by their first names).

CALLING YOSHIO

OPTION 1: Ask how the girls would rate you

  • The order the girls are listed in is the same as the order in the phonebook
  • The smiley faces are a girl's friendliness towards you (not their affection/love!) which affect how likely they are to: accept your date proposals, want to walk home with you, and ask you out on dates
  • The bomb icon means that girl is in a "Bomb State", which occurs if you've been mean or ignoring them. If left in this state for too long (1-3 months depending on the girl and repeated offences) the bomb will "go off" and lower every girl's friendliness and affection for you by 1-2 stages
  • A girl's behaviour towards you will actually change depending on how much they like or hate you - see if you can hear the difference in the voice acting!

Advance the text and you will get another two options:
1) Ask for information about a girl; 2) Hang up

OPTION 2: Ask for information about a girl

* Both Option 2 of the initial 3 choices and Option 1 from the rating screen bring up this choice box seen on the bottom of the image, including the surnames of all the girls you've met. Yoshio will let you ask about one girl you've met and show you his notes on them. This is how you can learn a girl's birthday, what club they're in, their interests, and most importantly: their phone number. If you don't ask Yoshio about a girl, (with the exception of Shiori) you will never have access to their phone number and will not be able to give them birthday gifts.

* Press the buttons at the top of the page to pull up Yoshio's notes about each girl. His notes actually change depending what year you're in, so I've done my best to compile all of them. Remember that Shiori's information depends on what you input at the start of the game (her club is determined by her birthday), and that other girls can't overlap with anyone else, so many of them have a secondary club they might be in in your run if Shiori is in their default club. If you want to know what club Shiori is in in your run, this website has collected every possible birthday+club combination. (Not compatible with Pocket or the SNES versions due to those games having fewer clubs.)

OPTION 3: Ask about date spots

* You're supposed to unlock date spots by checking the magazine every season, but if you miss a season you can use this option when calling Yoshio to unlock the date spot you missed. Note that you only unlock one date spot at a time, so if you missed multiple then you'll have to call him multiple times to get them all. If you're up-to-date on your date spots, then this option becomes useless. Considering reading the magazine is a free option and calling Yoshio takes up an entire day, it's best to avoid using this at all if you can help it...

CALLING A GIRL

* Upon calling a girl and having a short back-and-forth greeting, the game will pull up your calendar. You're inviting her on a date! You can pick any free Sunday/holiday (labeled in pink). Some versions of the game (such as Emotional) will prevent you from double-booking a date on a day you already have something going on, but other versions won't be so kind! After you pick the day, you'll be prompted to pick the date location.

* At the start of the game, you'll only have a few date spots unlocked. You unlock more by reading the magazine every season, or by asking Yoshio about the date spots you missed. Like the phonebook names, they will always be in the same spot no matter how many or how few you have. On top of not unlocking that season's date spot, if you don't check the magazine to see what movies, concerts, and sports are running, then the Theater, Concert Hall, and Stadium will be removed from your options until you check.

* It's also important to note that the seasonal date spots (Pool/Sea in summer and Skating/Skiing in winter) occupy the same spots in Emotional since they can never be available at the same time. In older versions of the game, they get unique spots, meaning Skiing is put onto a third page of the list all on its lonesome. So check for a third page if you can't find it in your game! You can read more about the mechanics and unlock requirements behind date spots on its respective page.

* If a girl agrees to go on the date, you'll know because the protagonist will repeat the day it's on as seen above. However there's a chance they can refuse the date based on two factors: how much they like you and how much they like the location you're suggesting. The girls actually have two subtly different ways of wording the rejection based on if they're rejecting you because of simple RNG, or because they hate the idea of going to that place with you.

* Below I've collected the two different types of rejections. Note that while you can eventually get a girl to agree to go to a place they dislike (and the possibility of success increases the more they like you), I believe there are some places that certain girls refuse to go to no matter what (e.g., Mio will never go skiing) so for the sake of the both of you it might be worth it to try somewhere else unless you're hunting for CGs.

CALLING REI

* Unfortunately, you cannot invite Rei on dates. However, calling him over and over might lead to other unique events... and perhaps even an ending...?
