"You’re an inter-dimensional being that owns a huge estate situated on the cusp of spacetime and you’ve been asked to rent out your mansion for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. tournament! The Smashers prove to be unruly, chaotic, and sometimes just plain disrespectful of you and your property, but despite it all, you find yourself warming up to them as time goes on. Perhaps one day you might even find… love??"
"the Smashers and their Host" (AKA "TSATH") is a reader-insert Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fanfic where the reader (AKA "the Host") is the owner of the mansion that the Ultimate roster is living in. It's a silly trope-filled friendship fest that involves the Host going on many adventures to befriend every single character on the Smash roster. Sometimes there's also romance! Wow!
ALSO, unlike most fanfics that have things like "main characters", this is intended to be an ensemble cast where EVENTUALLY, every Smash character will have roughly the same amount of character appearances. Since characters are added to the fic gradually over the first 33 chapters, it may feel like some characters are more significant than others but I swear that'll balance out eventually!!
I started this fanfic in 2018 before the game released because I was baffled to learn there wasn't a reader-insert Smash Mansion fic on AO3 already, but I ended up having so much fun with it that I'm still writing it to this day! As of this writing (January 2024), it has over 300k words across 26 chapters and is about 25% complete! It is probably one of my proudest writing projects, so if you choose to read anything I've written, I'd love for it to be this! :)

We have a spreadsheet with all that information!
Currently, yes, the fic is still being worked on! Typically I try to update at least once every two months, but please do not be scared if it has been a year since the last update. I just have a lot of hobbies and ADHD inside me along with a lot of personal life issues like "money" so please be patient with me!!
YES of course you can! I would also love to see what you make so please send it to me (tag me on social media, post in the Discord, put it in the fic comments, etc) when you post it. :) I'd also love to post it on this site (with your permission & crediting you of course) so!!! Yahoo!!!
Yes you can do this as well! You are free to write any alt scenes, potential future events, or WHATEVER you want using the setting and lore established in this fic series! The Host is meant to be an avatar for the reader to put their own traits onto so you can absolutely use them as the main character in your fic or as an extra character if you choose to go with a different focus character. You're also free to take any of TSATH's lore and recycle it into your fic. Do whatever ya want!!!
I promise you will get the answers in the fanfic eventually! Everything is set up so we introduce these mysteries in the first half of the fanfic, then start getting answers in the second half as the plot develops and character arcs get resolved. If you're DESPERATE for answers... you may be able to find something on this website that reveals everything to you... Additionally, you might also find some nuggets of info in this twitter thread compiling every time I've ever talked about the fic publically. Otherwise, feel free to discuss your theories in the Discord. :)
Please check the fanfic's notes on AO3 to find an invite link! This is to prevent spammers and "trolls" from stumbling upon it. If the link doesn't work or you can't find it, send me a message on one of my socials to ask for it!
Feel free to tell it to me! I can't promise I'll use it, but I actually do write down a lot of ideas from the community (and will often ask for advice or make polls on the Discord when I need to make writing decisions). Due to the projected length of this fic and because I usually plan 10 chapters in advance, it might be a loooooong time before you see your idea get used, but don't be disappointed!
It's unavoidable that I'm going to like writing certain characters more, not to mention that extroverted or chatty characters will probably have more screentime and dialogue than others - especially during the first third of the fic where characters are being introduced gradually. But I use a spreadsheet to keep track of character appearances so I know when to dial back certain ones. When I write a chapter, my three thoughts are usually:
1. Who will be the main characters?I also use audience suggestions a lot, so fan favourites may appear in group activities repeatedly. Chapters 11, 16, 17, 19, 21, and 26 all feature characters that were chosen either by a poll or from individuals in the Discord. Additionally, from 22 onwards we have a few clauses during tournament battles that involve winners getting extra chapter appearances.
Anyways, if you're wondering where certain characters are: just take all of the above into your brain and know they are probably just hanging out and waiting for their turn. :) Because if every chapter had every Smash character, I would die!!!!!
