i was super into team fortress 2 in high school and that team-based turf war-type game is the only time i am willing to care about a multiplayer shooter game. so splatoon scratches that itch for me! but unlike a lot of nintendo fans i am not "Big" into splatoon. regardless, i picked up splatoon 2 because i had the money and was itching for another switch game after finishing up botw. it's fine, just like splatoon 1 but overall "better" i guess? i cannot stand how they nerfed my main, the splattershot jr however. it wasn't enough to for them to remove the bubbler, but it also just feels like they gave it worse range?? did nintendo get mad that too many people were sticking to the default weapon and smashing skulls & taking names with it? sorry was i better than the 8 year olds who fill a team with rollers and don't know the goal is to paint the area and not to rack up kills? cowards. anyways now i'm forced to try out different weapons. i defaulted to the dualies which i'm pretty comfortable with but i'm hoping to unlock one with more preferable specials. i tried out the bucket for a bit and while it was weird at first, i was surprised by how much i kinda liked it after a match or two. and i haven't tried this one out in multiplayer, but i love the umbrella weapon. i have some problems with it but i'd like to try using it some more. aside from maybe the regular splattershot, i am not a fan of any of the other weapons. splat2 single player is overall better than the first game's imo, the game is always using new gimmicks or concepts and some levels actually get kind of challenging... but i'm not sure if that's just because the game forces you to use specific weapons on your first run through a level. obviously i was terrible at levels when i was using the roller, charger, or paintbrush, and i usually sweeped it when i replayed with the splattershot or the dualies, but i don't know if that's because i could skip the collectables and/or had learned the level. splatoon 2 final boss discussionthe final boss was cool in concept, but it was disappointing compared to the first game's. it felt like there was no explanation for dj octavio being there, or why or how callie got brainwashed. yes there's the squid sister short things from extra material but it really didn't "explain" anything. i would have preferred if there had been more plot (or any at all!) as the campaign went on to build up to the boss, or if callie was actually working alone. there was totally basis for her becoming a cool evil mastermind. like i saw the plot twist of her being Evil coming from a mile away but they really didn't make it as cool or dramatic as they could have. gameplay-wise, i appreciate it had the rainmaker and the on-rails phase, because the rail grinding is probably the coolest thing in the game, even if it was pretty simple for this boss. also i'm not one to complain about difficulty or lack thereof in video games, but the final boss was so easy that i was actually disappointed about it. i beat it on my first try, no deaths and maybe only got hit one or two times. in summary: it's just more splatoon. which i guess is cool for people who wanted that? even though i enjoyed it, i yearn for something Fresh. |
